Chrysalis Vineyards sits on more than 400 acres of historic farmland in Loudoun County, Virginia — land George Washington once called "the breadbasket of the American Revolution." Fifty of those acres are planted with vines, including what the vineyard describes as the largest planting of Norton, Virginia's native grape, in the world, alongside other European varieties suited to the local soil and climate. The History of Rockwood Manor Retreats and Events After leaving Washington, D.C., Carolyn Gangwer Caughey (pronounced "Coy") traveled west along the Old Conduit Road (now MacArthur Boulevard) to her newly purchased estate near Great Falls. Mountains of tall cedars, poplars, and oaks cover rock-studded hillsides that gently slope down to a stream valley. A name for Mrs. Caughey's country estate was suggested to her by the natural elements almost immediately: Rockwood. Carolyn was a well-to-do socialite whose ancestors traced their roots back to the American Revolution. She was also a successful businesswoman who had a passion for architecture and a keen eye for profit in the real estate market. According to Who's Who in the Nation's Capital, she is "active in civic betterment, particularly in relation to better-constructed and better-planned homes," among other things. It also mentions that she was responsible for designing one of the largest apartment buildings in the nation's capital at the time. As a result, many of her close friends were not surprised when she revealed that she had designed and personally supervised the construction of her new home. Visiting auctions and antique dealers in the area on a regular basis assisted her in the furnishing of her country estate. Our Philosophy Cider is finally reclaiming its rightful place as America's table drink, a position it had during Colonial times and for much of the nineteenth century to the present. The different schools of thought about cider are evident today, particularly in Virginia where we obtain our apples and produce our cider: from the traditional farm cideries where classic cider apples are pressed and the juice fully fermented with only yeast added, to the cutting edge cider makers who are influenced by the craft beer movement and infuse their ciders with a riotous blend of new and historic natural flavors. Our Ciders are made in small batches. When it comes to our Cidery, Mount Defiance is extremely proud to offer both classic and craft ciders. Winding Creek Farm is located just a short drive outside of historic Waterford in the town of Lovettsville, Virginia, right in the heart of Virginia Wine Country. It is a beautiful farm with a relaxing, rustic setting that is ideal for your wedding reception or other special event. It is the 5,000 square foot, 118-year-old bank barn with two beautiful levels that is the main feature of the 20-acre property. The barn has been completely renovated and restored, allowing the natural beauty of years past to shine through. The property has the capability of hosting both the ceremony and the reception, with seating for 150 guests on the main level of the barn and 90 guests on the lower level of the barn, respectively. A two-bedroom farmhouse built in the 1900s has been completely renovated while maintaining the warm country feel of a home away from home. THE OUTDOOR GARDEN In our beautiful, rustic barn, you can host a party for your friends and family. The lower level of the barn is ideal for cocktail hour, while the upper level is filled with rustic charm and is the perfect setting for the reception. THE STRUCTURE OF THE FARMHOUSE Our farmhouse, built in the early 1900s in the country style, is the ideal bridal suite! The two-bedroom house is a wonderful place for you to relax and be pampered on your special day!

INVITATIONS FOR SMALL AND LARGE WEDDINGS The maximum capacity is 100 people. For 48 hours, you will have exclusive access to the property. Accommodations for up to 16 people for two nights are included. The barn and stable, which are enclosed by stone walls, are in use. The Manor and Vineyard Cottage are available for your use. The Silo is being utilized. Sites for outdoor ceremonies and rain-planning areas Massage services are available on-site by appointment only (see below). Strong Mansion is a historic event venue set within Stronghold, a private, nonprofit preserve encompassing 3,000 acres on Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson, Maryland. Built in 1912 and refurbished for modern events, the neoclassical mansion and its formal gardens provide a distinctive backdrop for weddings, banquets, and special occasions. The property is available for events from April through November. The venue centers on the mansion itself — featuring a ballroom with a gleaming hardwood floor, period furnishings, and arched windows — along with a 40-by-57-foot tented patio with chandeliers and festoon lighting that accommodates up to 175 guests. Three outdoor ceremony sites are set across the grounds, which include a lily pond, manicured gardens, and long views into the surrounding mountain landscape. Strong Mansion includes an air-conditioned bridal suite, seven bedrooms, six bathrooms, and full handicap accessibility. Its location places it roughly 15 minutes from historic Frederick and within an hour of both Baltimore and the Washington, D.C. metro area.
