The Amy King Dundon-Berchtold University Club of USC occupies King Stoops Hall on the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles — a former Los Angeles Public Library that underwent a full renovation in 2012 and was renamed in 2016 following a generous gift from Amy King Dundon-Berchtold. The club has served as a gathering place for the USC community for decades, offering settings for formal dining, informal get-togethers, meetings, and private events. The venue accommodates private receptions, weddings, rehearsal dinners, symposiums, and corporate events for up to 180 guests. The adjoining Scriptorium provides an additional 1,450-square-foot meeting and event room with capacity for up to 100. Otium is a restaurant that removes the formalities of dining and instead focuses on the quality of the food, the warmth of the service, and the relaxed casual atmosphere. With an open kitchen that connects the indoor and outdoor spaces, it is intended to be a social gathering place. The name of the restaurant, Otium, has its origins in Latin and is intended to convey the idea of a place where time can be spent engaging in leisurely social activities. With options ranging from intimate dinners on our mezzanine to large gatherings on the plaza, as well as off-site catering, we are happy to personalize the experience for you and your guests. It's on the patio. Our patio has a view of the grassy park that we share with The Broad Museum of Contemporary Art. In the context of its Southern California location, e Garden is a hybrid art form that combines traditional elements of Japanese garden design with contemporary elements. They had a shared love of the outdoors, and gardening in particular, drew them together. When it came to self-development, Loraine and Earl recognized the importance of travel, well-being, education, and art as a means of expression. They are reflected in the Garden and in other projects that they have funded, such as the CSULB International House, Miller Children's Hospital, and the ongoing work of The Earl B. and Loraine H. Miller Foundation, which they established in memory of their parents. At this time, we are unable to accommodate docent-led tours due to a lack of available space. When planning to visit the Garden during regular hours, groups of 15 or more people must contact the Garden in advance by phone (562) 985-8420 or email (jgcoordinators@csulb.edu), regardless of whether or not a docent-led tour is requested. A minimum of two weeks notice is required, and group visits may be subject to a fee if they are not pre-arranged.
