Built in 1899 and designed by the Denver firm Varian and Sterner, the Tears McFarlane House is an 8,700-square-foot Colonial Revival mansion situated on the north edge of Cheesman Park in Denver's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Designated as a Denver historic landmark in 1972 and listed as a National Historic Landmark in 1976, the property stands as one of the finest residential examples of the Colonial Revival style in Colorado. The mansion's interiors preserve notable original details, including a Tiffany stained glass window featuring a fall leaf motif in seven colors on the main staircase landing and a hallway mirror salvaged from the historic Windsor Hotel. The first floor offers elegant gathering spaces — the Parlor, with its hand-crafted bar and fireplace, and the adjoining Dining Room, with crown molding, custom chandeliers, and refinished hardwood floors — that together accommodate first-floor receptions for up to 75 guests.
