In February 2016, we opened the doors to Brass Bear Brewing in the Funk Zone of Santa Barbara, CA, one block from the ocean, featuring our high-quality craft beer, rotating guest taps, wine, sparkling wine, and cider. Locally sourced ingredients are vital to our menu. Our menu comprises locally sourced charcuterie boards, tri-tip skewers, chicken, shrimp, occasionally shark, burger, and hot toasted sandwiches. During a cross-country National Parks road trip from New York to California, the Brass Bear name was born! Coincidentally, in our favorite park. We went camping in Glacier (the kind which involves signing your life away at the ranger station and being armed with bear spray). The late afternoon sun hit the bears perfectly and turned them into a beautiful brass color. They glanced our way and with a decisive grunt carried on. We agreed over dinner that night that this would be the perfect name for our own business one day, to remind us to face our fears and keep on trekking!

La Mesa Park is a 6.97-acre neighborhood park in Santa Barbara, California, tucked just above Shoreline Drive with towering trees, a grassy lawn, and ocean views just a short walk away. Established in 1952, the park offers a serene natural setting that lends itself well to outdoor gatherings, from family birthday parties to intimate weddings and receptions. The park's reservable picnic area accommodates up to 50 guests and includes picnic tables, a large stone barbecue, a sink, and a small stage. Water and electricity hookups are available for an additional fee. Adjacent playground equipment, restrooms, and both on-site and on-street parking round out the amenities. Dogs on leash are welcome throughout the park. Rentals are managed through the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department, which handles reservations and event coordination for this beloved neighborhood gathering place.

The A.C. Postel Memorial Rose Garden — also known as the Mission Rose Garden — is an outdoor event venue managed by the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department. The garden sits within Mission Historical Park in Santa Barbara's upper Eastside neighborhood, adjacent to the historic Santa Barbara Mission and bounded by Los Olivos and Laguna Streets. Spanning approximately 2,000 square feet of open lawn and garden, the space accommodates up to 50 guests for small wedding ceremonies and private gatherings. More than 1,500 rose plants representing over 1,000 varieties surround the gathering area, with many labeled for identification. The garden is designated as an All-American Rose Selections demonstration garden and reaches peak bloom from spring through fall, with blooms unavailable between January and March during annual winter pruning. Paved and hard-packed paths throughout the garden are wheelchair accessible, and benches are provided throughout the space. Permits are required through the Parks and Recreation Department; light music can be accommodated during ceremonies out of consideration for nearby residences.

Established in 1977 and often called the "crown jewel" of the city's park system, the garden features an extensive botanical collection of 75 tree and plant species, a koi pond, a sensory garden with audio posts and interpretive Braille signs, a low water use demonstration garden, walking paths, picnic areas, and a classic gazebo. The park offers a reservable event space — the Arbor Area — a lush grassy area framed by a wisteria arbor near Arrellaga Street. The Arbor Area accommodates up to 100 guests and is a popular site for wedding ceremonies. Four distinct event spaces accommodate gatherings of every scale, from micro-weddings of under 30 guests to full campus buyouts for up to 285. The Sanctuary and Parish Hall offer refined interior settings, while the Parish Courtyard — with its fountains and evening lighting — and the Jefferson Courtyard provide open-air alternatives for receptions and ceremonies alike. Two event spaces accommodate gatherings from 70 to 210 seated guests. The open-air Garden Courtyard, draped in greenery and lit by bistro lights and vintage street lamps, seats up to 140 and can hold 200 for a standing reception. The indoor Arlington Room features a built-in bar and dance floor and accommodates up to 70 guests, giving events a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. In-house catering is led by chef and owner Petros Benekos, whose Hellenic-California menu draws on produce grown at his Santa Ynez farm and ingredients imported from Greece.
