LARC's Acadian Village is a 32-acre heritage site in Lafayette, Louisiana, featuring an authentic recreation of an 1800s Cajun village — seven of its eleven buildings are original 19th-century homes donated by descendant families, constructed with wooden pegs, mud walls, hand-hewn cypress timbers, and high-peaked roofs. The site was developed in the early 1970s to preserve Acadian cultural heritage, and all revenue supports LARC, a local nonprofit that serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Main Event Room is the largest indoor space, combining modern features with warm, historic charm. The Rhum Room, centered around a horseshoe bar and star-shaped lighting, suits smaller gatherings or can serve as an adjoining space for larger events. Lyons for $18,000 using virgin Louisiana cypress, pine, and oak, the 33,000-square-foot building is a National Historical Landmark recognized for its pressed tin tiles, hand-painted angel medallions, and original architectural detail. For nearly four decades, the venue hosted prominent performers including Enrico Caruso, Clark Gable, and Huey Long before transitioning to film and eventually closing. In 2004, the Gielen family donated the building to a nonprofit organization, and a $4.5 million restoration reopened it in 2008 as a fully functioning performing arts venue. Today the Grand Opera House of the South offers three distinct rental spaces for private events. Le Grand Hall on the first floor accommodates up to 500 guests in one continuous open area, with a full bar, a spacious bride's room, and a state-of-the-art kitchen.
