Originally built in 1887 as a coal-fired electric generation facility, the building served the community for nearly a century before being acquired by a nonprofit in 1987 and reopened in 1989 as a cultural and event venue. Today it operates as Salida's designated cultural hub within the state-recognized Salida Creative District. The facility's industrial-chic character — soaring ceilings, exposed brick, and panoramic views of the Arkansas Valley — sets the stage for weddings, concerts, conferences, and private celebrations. Indoor spaces include the Ballroom, which accommodates up to 180 guests for seated dinners or 335 for standing receptions, and The Annex, a flexible breakout space suited for smaller gatherings of up to 60 guests. The SteamPlant Event Center occupies a restored 19th-century power plant in downtown Salida, Colorado, along the Arkansas River. The oldest section of the building dates to 1887, when the structure was built to generate Salida's first public electricity. After retiring from power generation in 1963 and sitting dormant for decades, the property was purchased in 1987 and reopened in 1989 as a performing arts and event venue. Today the SteamPlant operates as a multi-use cultural hub within the Salida Creative District, managed by the City of Salida. The venue encompasses several distinct spaces — a ballroom with an open floor plan and soaring ceilings, a flexible theater with professional staging and built-in audio/visual infrastructure, an annex suited for intimate breakout sessions and smaller receptions, and an outdoor plaza and riverside grounds along the Arkansas River. A full kitchen supports on-site catering, all spaces are ADA-accessible, and the downtown location puts guests within easy reach of lodging and dining.

Hutchinson Ranch Weddings & Events sits on 800 acres of working Colorado ranchland about two miles west of Salida, just off Highway 50. The property has been in continuous operation since 1868, when pioneers Joseph Sykes Hutchinson and Annabel McPherson first settled and began raising cattle. Seven generations of the Hutchinson family have worked the land since, and the ranch remains an active Red Angus cattle operation today. The centerpiece event space is a 36-by-60-foot indoor barn that pairs a rustic ranch aesthetic with thoughtful event details — decorative lighting, two bars, farm tables, wooden chairs, ceremony arches, and an outdoor propane fire pit. The barn opens to a ceremony lawn set against open hay fields and views of Colorado's highest mountain range. Together, the indoor and outdoor areas accommodate groups of 175 or more for weddings, corporate retreats, private parties, reunions, and live music events.
