The Presbytère’s two permanent exhibits tell two sides of the ongoing Louisiana story—one of celebration and one of resilience. Mardi Gras: It’s Carnival Time in Louisiana offers a window into the annual celebration and riotous rituals of Mardi Gras, a festival that is inextricably woven into Louisiana’s way of life and whose roots extend deep into the Middle Ages. There are parade floats to climb, costumes to see and historical throws on display as well as rare glimpses into the secretive social club society from which modern-day Mardi Gras krewes evolved. And it’s not a party without music: Mardi Gras albums, records, sheet music and more are also part of the collection. The Living with Hurricanes: Katrina and Beyond exhibit tells of rescue, rebuilding and renewal. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans’ badly engineered levee system, it resulted in one of the worst disasters in American history, leaving 80 percent of the city flooded and hundreds dead. The exhibit documents the event, the aftermath and southeast Louisiana’s ongoing recovery. With interactive exhibits and artifacts that showcase the spirit of the city’s residents, this is a collection you don’t want to miss.

    • Spaces for 75-200 Guests
    • 1 Event Space

Le Musée, the Greek Revival residence at 2336 Esplanade Avenue, and its vicinity, centered in the area known as upper Treme, were originally part of the plantation of Domingo Fleitas. Fleitas, a Spanish colonial who had fought with Galvez in the American Revolution, had grandchildren born free people of color. This stretch of Esplanade Avenue, mid-way between the Mississippi River and Bayou St. John, was not developed until the 1850s when Benjamin Rodriguez, a Jewish speculator who also owned the Esplanade omnibus, began acquiring lots in the area. Rodriguez first built his home at 2306 Esplanade, where the Musson family later lived for a period of time and their cousin Edgar Degas, the acclaimed French artist, visited. In 1859, Rodriguez contracted with Joseph Jouet, the same builder who constructed the famed French Hospital, to build the house at 2336. Though this residence was never owned by persons of color until its present ones, because of their dominance in the building trades, it can be assumed that they participated in the construction. Esplanade Avenue has always been noted for its gracious homes and abundant greenery. Little known is that free people of color owned numerous properties along the avenue and its intersecting streets in the antebellum period

Our chefs at Domenica restaurant work tirelessly to create meals that passionately combine local, fresh ingredients with time-honored preparation methods in an effort to bring diners to those treasured moments. Host your next corporate event amidst an ambiance of art and sophistication, within a setting that was once housed in the Eiffel Tower in Paris. EIFFEL SOCIETY is the perfect New Orleans events venue for your next personal or company party. The English Turn is named after one of the most unlikely events that could occur in North America. Inevitably, the bluffing of an experienced English Captain by a 19-year-old with a Native guide changed the course of history. The French had been in the area (now known as New Orleans) for approximately 20 years, scouting for high ground and figuring out the lay of the land. Iberville and Bienville were two brothers from the Le Moyne family who had been in Canada fighting the English and proving their worth to King Louis XIV. They had been in Canada fighting the English and proving their worth to King Louis XIV when they were captured by the English. In the hope of discovering the Mississippi River's mouth, Iberville and Bienville set out from Quebec for New France-Louisiana, where they eventually arrived. The Iroquois and other indigenous tribes in the area were pleased with their arrival, and they made peace with them. This brought about a sense of tranquility in the area, which was beneficial to New France. A native guide paddled alongside Jean Baptiste (then 19 years old) on a canoe, scouting the area and attempting to understand the river and how it influenced the land and environment. They were taken completely by surprise when they turned the bend in the river and came upon an English Corvette (war ship), which was armed with ten guns on either side. Jean Baptiste and his guide rowed alongside the ship and had a conversation with the ship's captain, who was from England. Upon further investigation, he discovered that this captain was once a Prisoner of Pierre who had served in Canada and New England. A French Frigate, complete with 20 guns on each side, was just upriver, Jean Baptiste persuaded the Captain during this period of relative calm. They might want to retreat to their Caribbean colonies for their own safety. Upriver, there were a few squalid huts and tents, as well as a few guns and knives, but nothing more. As a result of his convincing the English Captain that Jean Baptiste was as honorable as his brother, the ship was turned around. Because of this, this bend in the river is referred to as the English Turn.

    Capital Nola

    New Orleans, LA, USA

The Canal Bank & Trust Building, which can be found at 210 Baronne Street, was designed by the well-known New Orleans architect Emile Weil. Built in 1927, Weil adorned the exterior of the building with limestone statues and lined the corridors with mahogany trim, Tennessee marble, travertine floors, and brass embroidery. In addition, he used travertine floors. Before it was converted into apartments, this structure was home to a variety of professional offices as well as one of the largest banks in the South for almost 90 years. The interior of the bank lobby was designed to convey an air of majesty and scale that is unequaled by any other location in the city. The original bank lobby is now known as the Capital on Baronne and has been renovated recently. The irreplaceable plasterwork and the hand-carved marble columns are just two examples of the many details that have been preserved. The Capital on Baronne is New Orleans' most elegant ballroom, making it the ideal location for wedding receptions as well as corporate events. If you are looking for the ideal New Orleans wedding venue, look no further.

    Etoile Polaire

1433 N Rampart St, New Orleans, LA 70116, USA

During the late 1800s and early 1900s, this Masonic hall was used for a variety of social events including dances, some of which featured ragtime and jazz musicians. The lodge was a prominent white Creole association that was established at this location in 1794. Among its members was W.C.C. Claiborne, who served as Louisiana's first governor. The first floor was used for public gatherings, while the second floor was reserved for private lodge functions. Rituals were performed in French until the 1950s, when the language was switched to English. The building is an impressive example of the Greek Revival style; it has three bays and two stories and was built around the year 1840. Both the building and the cast iron gate along Rampart Street, which was constructed in the 1880s, are decorated with Masonic symbols. Today, guests continue to stay at the lodge. The Lodge has a rich history that makes its interior shine with one-of-a-kind details that cannot be found in any other venue that is available for rental. This expansive and historically significant property was founded in 1794 and chartered by the Grand Lodge of Louisiana in 1812, the same year that the state of Louisiana was admitted to the Union. If the exterior space is used, the property can accommodate as many as 300 people.
