Sony Hall is a one-of-a-kind venue that flawlessly blends its incredible history and breathtaking design with the Sony Corporation’s state-of-the art technology. First opened in 1938 by theatrical showman and impresario Billy Rose, the venue—formerly known as the Diamond Horseshoe—was famous for its dinner theater shows, vaudeville-style revues, and a chorus of showgirls called “Billy Rose’s Long-Stemmed Beauties.” It quickly became one of the most iconic venues of the vaudeville era, and was later known for the off-Broadway hit “Queen of the Night”. In 2009, the French renaissance, art deco and baroque detailed building received architectural recognition by being designated a New York City landmark. After “Queen of the Night” closed, the space reopened as Sony Hall in 2018—a multi-genre live music hall—leaving much of the venue’s dynamic design intact. The landmark space has been restored and now offers a personalized experience for any private event as a full-service venue. Originally designed by Calvert Vaux, Tavern on the Green was built as a sheep fold in the 1880’s to house the 700 Southdown sheep that grazed in Central Park’s Sheep Meadow. Robert Moses transformed the building in to a restaurant in 1934, as part of his park renovation. Through the next few decades, Tavern underwent several changes in management, but the iconic view of the park, and the addition of a dance floor, outdoor seating, and lavish menu, kept prominent actors, musicians, and public figures coming back to the restaurant to dine, drink, and celebrate. After a hiatus starting in 2009, the city searched diligently for a new operator to reopen the iconic restaurant in 2013. The city selected current owners and restauranteurs Jim Caiola and David Salama, previously of Philadelphia, who would bring a fresh, welcoming approach to Tavern. The duo renovated the restaurant with inviting décor and wood paneling reminiscent of the original sheep fold, and, with a seasonal menu more reflective of Greater New York, reopened Tavern on the Green in April 2014.

Facility Rental Fee: The venue does not charge a rental fee, but there is a guest minimum—Saturday evening’s minimum is 165 guests, and for Friday or Sunday the minimum is 125 guests. What’s Included: -Five hour exclusive access to Lake Room, at 4,300 sq. ft space that is located adjacent to the restaurant. The room overlooks the lake on the South side with a 450 sq. ft deck and is surrounded on the West and North side by a 3,300 sqft English Garden. -Cocktail hour with butlered hors d’oeuvres, followed by a four course seated meal with choice of two entrées. -Wine service is provided throughout the meal in addition to a five hour open bar.
