  The Inn At The Old Silk Mill is located in the heart of Fredericksburg's historic downtown. The Inn, which was built in the 1930s, was one of the largest motor lodges on the east coast at the time.   As a National Trust for Historic Preservation site, we believe that all Americans have a right to learn about their own history by visiting the places that surround us. This historic site is dedicated to filling in the gaps of our cultural heritage, particularly the stories of enslaved and freed Black communities, as well as the stories of their descendants. Take a look at our interpretation themes. All of our properties are on 126 historic acres in Alexandria, Virginia, and they include two historic properties and one working farm. It was built in 1805, and it was given to Nelly Custis and Lawrence Lewis as a gift by President George Washington. The site was used as a plantation, and the couple enslaved over 90 people while operating it. The Pope-Leighey House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is also located on the grounds, where visitors can explore and be inspired by the Usonian architecture and a vision for affordable, well-designed housing that Wright envisioned. We co-own the land with our partner, Arcadia Farm for Sustainable Agriculture, whose mission is to create a more equitable and sustainable local food system in the greater Los Angeles area. Our activities are spread out throughout the grounds and trails, and they are designed to promote learning as well as wellbeing as well as respite and enjoyment of the natural environment and its history. Immersive experiences, exhibitions, performances, and thought-provoking art are used to bring these stories and discussions to life. Across the grounds of Woodlawn and Pope-Leighey House, two historic homes situated on 120 acres of agricultural land farmed by our non-profit partner Arcadia, are intertwined tales of community transformation. Originally the private collection of Virginia Beach businessman Gerald Yagen, the museum opened to the public in 2008 and today welcomes more than 85,000 visitors a year to see warbirds maintained in operational, flying condition rather than kept as static displays. The campus blends museum galleries with authentic historic structures relocated from overseas, including the Goxhill Watch Office, a former U.S. 8th Air Force control tower from England, and Halle 6 Cottbus, a German airfield hangar that still bears battle damage from 1945. Two 15,000-square-foot hangars, each accommodating up to 600 guests, offer climate-controlled indoor space for weddings, corporate events, and holiday parties, while the historic WWI Hangar and the open museum grounds provide rustic and outdoor alternatives for events as large as 5,000 with tents and staging. The museum can also add a private aircraft demonstration to an event rental, giving guests a warbird flyover as part of their evening.

  Barboursville Vineyards is a 900-acre estate in the Southwest Mountains north of Charlottesville, framed by the Blue Ridge. Its private-event architecture carries echoes of Italy, from the Palladian design of Jefferson's mansion for Governor Barbour to the Tuscan-styled winery and its expansive loggia, set among vineyards recognized as among the most awarded in the Eastern United States. For private parties and weddings, the estate offers elegant dinner seating for up to 120 guests, along with a manicured meadow that accommodates up to 500 guests for tented receptions. Additional indoor spaces include a dining room seating 40 and a smaller veranda dining room seating 20, both part of the estate's Palladio Restaurant.
