  The Riddick House is an 1812 plantation home at Stevenson Ridge, a 90-acre historic property centered on the Spotsylvania Court House Battlefield in Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia. Restored as part of the estate's ongoing preservation of its antique structures, the house retains its original character alongside modern conveniences for guests.   Winterham Manor is a historic Italianate home in Amelia County, Virginia, built around 1855 by a cousin of Thomas Jefferson and listed on the National Register. Purchased in 1999 after decades of abandonment, the property underwent a full restoration before reopening in 2003 as a bed and breakfast, wedding venue, and special events destination. The grounds sweep down to a 15-acre lake, with 300 acres of nursery plantings rising on the hills beyond. Couples can choose from several ceremony sites on the property, including the Versailles Pavilion overlooking the lake, the Manor House's front porch and facade, the "Lovers' Tree," a 60' x 40' event tent with a central dance floor, or the Manor House itself for weddings of 75 guests or fewer. The Manor House and adjoining Garden Terrace suite can accommodate overnight guests, with a separate entrance for the groomsmen's suite and dressing areas for the bridal party on the second floor.   James River Cellars Winery is Richmond's oldest winery, set on a 20-acre former farm in Montpelier, Virginia that founder Ray Lazarchic converted into a vineyard after discovering a shared passion for Gewürztraminer with his daughter Mitzi and her husband James Batterson. Opened in 2001, the winery remains family-run today: Mitzi oversees the business, James produces every wine on-site, and Ray tends the property's landscaping. The winery's signature Gewürztraminer, a drier Alsatian-style wine with white spice and floral notes, has become its calling card. For weddings and private celebrations, the winery offers a covered 45'x80' Pavilion overlooking a landscaped lawn, complete with a private bridal suite, a 20'x20' bonus tent, and space for up to 150 guests. Smaller gatherings can book the Montpelier Room or the Hanover Room and Ashland Overlook, both banquet-style spaces suited to seated dinners or cocktail receptions.   Rippon Lodge is a Prince William County historic site built circa 1747 for Richard Blackburn, making it one of the oldest surviving homes in the county. Set on 43 acres above the Potomac River, the property includes formal gardens, walking trails, and the Blackburn and Atkinson family cemetery, with a history that spans colonial tobacco production, Revolutionary War-era politics, and a family connection to George Washington's nephew by marriage. The home was updated in a Colonial Revival style beginning in 1923 and remained with descendants of its original builder until Prince William County acquired it in 2000. For events, Rippon Lodge offers grounds rental with vast lawns and outdoor gardens overlooking the Potomac River, suited to weddings and receptions of up to 150 to 200 guests under large reception tents. Music is permitted, and couples may bring in a caterer of their choice, with wine, beer, and champagne allowed under proper permits.   Set within James Madison University's 125-acre woodland sanctuary in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum is a public garden and forested greenspace with 3.5 miles of trails, marking 35 years as a regional landmark. The grounds are free and open to the public from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year, and include features such as a newly renovated labyrinth and an outdoor StoryWalk trail. The arboretum hosts weddings and private events across several distinct settings. The Lawn overlooks a pond with seasonal garden blooms and holds up to 200 guests standing, while the Ernst Tree Terrace offers a more private setting with a seasonal fountain, pergola, and granite table overlooking the lower gardens. The Jurney Stage Garden is nestled among tall trees for smaller, more intimate gatherings, and the Frances Plecker Education Center is the arboretum's only fully indoor, climate-controlled space, equipped with a kitchen, restrooms, and A/V equipment for ceremonies, receptions, or as a dressing area.
