The Sankaty Head Beach & Golf Club

100 Sankaty Rd, Nantucket, MA 02554, USA
    • Spaces for 50-150 Guests
    • 1 Country Club

The Sankaty Head Golf Club is a private golf club that also features tennis and beach facilities. It offers its members and their families first-rate recreational and social activities in a setting that is low-key and relaxed. The game of golf is the principal emphasis of the Club. The golf course is known for being an exceptional example of golf design in the links style, and it is bordered by undeveloped area and various types of animals. The natural splendor and tranquility of the area are highly valued by the membership, and they consider the course's difficulty to be of equal importance. The Caddy Camp, which is made possible by the generous contributions of club members to the Sankaty Head Foundation, contributes to the overall quality of the golf experience at Sankaty. This camp is the last of its type and is an essential component of the Sankaty golfing legacy. It provides young people from all over the country with opportunities to participate in recreational activities and it also offers a scholarship program. The mission of Sankaty is to organize events in which several members of a family can take part. Tennis and swimming facilities at the Beach Club offer a variety of activities for younger children, teenagers, and adult members. Whereas golf is primarily oriented toward members and their spouses, with limited play by children under the age of college, tennis and swimming facilities at the Beach Club offer a variety of activities. The Club's social activity calendar is confined to certain events that are spread out over the summer season. This is done in acknowledgment of the fact that the Island offers a wide variety of alternative activities. The services and employees are kind and competent, and they are up to date while avoiding following any particular fashion trends. The food at the restaurant is delicious, and the gatherings are a lot of fun. The members place a high value on Sankaty's relaxed and friendly environment, which is unrestricted by an excessive number of rules and restrictions. The Club is dedicated to maintaining the values that have made it successful in the past while also adapting to the requirements of the present and future. The amenities at the Beach Club and the Clubhouse are both practical and comfortable, and their upkeep and modernisation are planned for in phases that adhere to the budget while yet preserving the historical nature of the buildings. Despite the fact that its facilities only allow for a total membership of 550 people, the Club has, throughout its history, kept its doors open to eligible new member applications who were sponsored by existing members. This strategy has served the Club well during times of high demand, and it has gained the faith of its members that admissions to membership are conducted democratically and equitably. This has earned the Club the confidence of its members. Properly sponsored legacies are given some precedence toward membership in order to ensure that the membership continues to value a strong emphasis on family. The Club, on the other hand, is of the opinion that it is vital to maintain a steady influx of new applicants for membership in order to forestall the risk of the organization becoming inbred through the implementation of a legacy policy. It is not due to the economic constraints of its membership that Sankaty is an affordable club; rather, it is due to the preference of its members. A significant amount of effort has been put in order to prevent the Club from being economically exclusive. The Club has ensured that the costs of its day-to-day operations and capital enhancements are fairly distributed among its membership in order to sustain this quality as well as the high standard of its establishments and offerings. In a nutshell, the mission of Sankaty is to establish itself as an exceptional family golf club that features a distinctive design, an engaging social program, and a summertime recreational atmosphere. The objective is to find a happy medium between modernization and preservation of established practices, with the end result being an improvement in the level of satisfaction experienced by members on an annual basis. The vast views of the Atlantic Ocean and Sesachacha Pond that are offered by the Sankaty Head Beach Club are available to guests whether they are exchanging vows or enjoying a gathering under a tent. The atmosphere and the breathtaking sunset combine for a setting that is sure to be memorable for any event, whether it be a laid-back clambake or an elegant banquet.

Allen Farm Sheep and Wool Company

    421 S Rd, Chilmark, MA 02535, USA

Martha’s Vineyard’s oldest continuously working family farm, the Allen Farm in Chilmark consists of 100 acres of rolling pastures and meadows bounded by historic stonewalls, upper Chilmark Pond and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Jonathan Allen originally purchased the farm in 1762, and ten years later his oldest son, Tristram, built the timber-framed farmhouse, which still sits just off of South Road in Chilmark. We restored the house in 1998, incorporating grey water and Clivus Multrum composting systems into the ancient fabric of the historic structure. The farmhouse and all its attendant outbuildings are very representative of the heritage of traditional New England farmsteads. In 1975 Clarissa Allen, then in her early twenties, inherited the farm and together with her husband Mitchell Posin, they began the difficult and challenging task of bringing to fruition their vision for a viable and sustainable working farm.

    Gay Head Lighthouse

9 Aquinnah Cir, Aquinnah, MA 02535, USA

Climb a steep metal stairway to the top of the light - magnificent colorful clay cliffs will take your breath away - or come back on weekends to witness the sun drop into the water during the magic hour. Couples looking for a unique wedding ceremony and photography location flock to the lighthouse. The first lighthouse built on Martha's Vineyard was the Gay Head Lighthouse. Maritime traffic had expanded to the point where Peleg Coffin of Nantucket addressed his Congressman in 1796, requesting that a light be placed at Gay Head because both islands were heavily involved in the whaling industry. President John Adams signed a contract with Hingham's Martin Lincoln to construct a timber lighthouse with a keeper's cottage and outbuildings. The light was turned on for the first time on November 7, 1799. Paul Revere supplied some copper and tin to supplement the Light's weatherproofing after it was constructed. Scott has been a chef for the last 18 years and has worked at various restaurants in New York City that have earned a Michelin star. Some of these places include Jean-Georges flagship restaurant on Columbus circle and Charlie Palmer's Aureole. His most recent position was as executive chef at Sutton Inn, where he was awarded two Michelin recommendations, a four-star rating from the Daily News, and was named one of Manhattan's top 10 American restaurants by OpenTable for five years in a row. In 1971, we constructed the first version of this home on property that belonged to the family... I have been a permanent resident of this area ever since that time. In 1989, we completely refurbished the home and expanded on to it in order to turn it into a seven-room inn that is light, clean, and spacious. The structure has always had an expansive covered wrap-around porch on the east and north sides. This porch, combined with the other common spaces and lawns, provides sufficient room for visitors to enjoy an evening of unhurried activity. As a result of our location at the very western tip of the island, we are privy to some of the most breathtaking scenery, panoramas, beach breezes, and sunsets in all of Martha's Vineyard.
