Bleu Frog Vineyards was born out of a perfect storm of timing, dreaming, hard work, and a little bit of luck. The Kernan family spent over 30 years serving in the United States Navy as true advocates for freedom and patriotism, with the intention of one day planting long-term roots of their own. After retiring in 2014, the quest for a farm life began in Loudoun County, where, as luck would have it, the historic White Stone Farm was posted for sale two years later. The undulating hills, rocky environment, and proximity to Leesburg drew the Kernans in as the ideal location. The property alterations were first inspired by grape cultivation and a healthy lifestyle, but the family soon recognized they could provide more to the community, the grape growers, and the wine makers of Northern Virginia. With the help of the harvest gods, they were able to produce their first wine in 2019, and their vision for the land began to grow. Jan's passion and expertise in the French culinary arts, as well as Joe's longtime service as a 'frogman' in the United States Navy SEAL community, inspired the moniker Bleu Frog. The Kernan family is committed to Veterans Affairs and supports a variety of causes that promote Veteran hiring programs as well as groups that provide long-term, ongoing care for Gold Star families. Ostertag Vistas is a 164-acre historic farm property tucked in a quiet valley near Myersville, Maryland, 15 minutes from both Frederick and Hagerstown. The grounds include three landmarked structures dating to 1711 — among them a circa-1700s stone pioneer home with a water wheel and a mid-1700s log cottage built by early German settlers — alongside rolling hills, a farm pond, streams, and meadows that attract blue herons, bald eagles, and migrating geese. The centerpiece of the property is a carefully restored 18th-century German Swiss bank barn, known as The Barn. Its 50-foot ceiling, original mortise-and-tenon timber frame held by wooden pegs, three stone fireplaces, and large glass panels looking out over the 164 acres make it the focal point for weddings and receptions. In 2014, Jonathan Staples established Black Hops Farm with the intention of supplying locally grown hops to Virginia's burgeoning alcohol sector. This was the farm's primary motivation. Glenview Mansion is a 1926 Neo-Classical Revival estate listed on the National Register of Historic Places, set within Rockville's 153-acre Civic Center Park. Built to entertain, the mansion retains its original character — exotic marble floors, formal boxwood gardens, ornamental fountains, and stone archways — while serving today as a full-service event venue operated by the City of Rockville, Maryland. The mansion's first floor opens into a suite of interconnected social rooms, each with its own character: the marble-floored Conservatory with dazzling lighting, the window-lined Dining Room and Library, and the Living Room with direct access to the Formal Gardens. Every rental includes use of the entire home, the front mall, and the surrounding grounds, which can accommodate up to 200 guests for ceremonies, receptions, and tented events. A separate Civic Center Cottage on the property is available for small gatherings of up to 25 guests or as a dedicated dressing suite.
