The Alexander Room and Terrace, which is tucked away in the heart of Metairie, is a true jewel. The International Brotherhood of Electricians (IBE) thought of and built the Alexander Room in 1984. The Alexander Room was designed to be a contender among Metairie's event spaces, and that was the goal from the outset of construction. The room was never advertised to the general public as a result of unforeseeable events. The Alexander Room was approached in 2014 with the aim of enlisting the help of Troy and Cindy Timphony of Hobnobber Café to take over the food, administration, and marketing of the space. As time went on, renovations were made, menus were created, and the website and social media platforms were established, resulting in the polished jewel that is The Alexander Room and Terrace. Cypress Grove Wedding Venue is a special place for us, and we're thrilled to share it with you! My name is Ted, and the name of my wife's is Joy. We are young empty nesters who have returned to our hometown and purchased this property in 2016 after having lived away for many years. We have two children and two grandchildren. We live on the property next to the venue and enjoy being on site because it allows us to meet so many beautiful couples as they go through the process of arranging their special wedding weekend. The venue is a historic general store that was built in 1886 and relocated to its current location in the 1990s. As a general shop, it was well-known for being one of the last locations that Bonnie and Clyde attempted to rob in 1934, when it was still in operation. The store has been transformed into a celebration venue, complete with a lovely verdant open field and a slab for the wedding ceremony. Moreover, in the event that it rains, this historic wedding venue has a one-of-a-kind backup plan. As you step through the old french doors, you are greeted by a spacious covered porch with cypress benches that run the length of the porch. Le Musée, the Greek Revival residence at 2336 Esplanade Avenue, and its vicinity, centered in the area known as upper Treme, were originally part of the plantation of Domingo Fleitas. Fleitas, a Spanish colonial who had fought with Galvez in the American Revolution, had grandchildren born free people of color. This stretch of Esplanade Avenue, mid-way between the Mississippi River and Bayou St. John, was not developed until the 1850s when Benjamin Rodriguez, a Jewish speculator who also owned the Esplanade omnibus, began acquiring lots in the area. Rodriguez first built his home at 2306 Esplanade, where the Musson family later lived for a period of time and their cousin Edgar Degas, the acclaimed French artist, visited. In 1859, Rodriguez contracted with Joseph Jouet, the same builder who constructed the famed French Hospital, to build the house at 2336. Though this residence was never owned by persons of color until its present ones, because of their dominance in the building trades, it can be assumed that they participated in the construction. Esplanade Avenue has always been noted for its gracious homes and abundant greenery. Little known is that free people of color owned numerous properties along the avenue and its intersecting streets in the antebellum period

The Canal Bank & Trust Building, which can be found at 210 Baronne Street, was designed by the well-known New Orleans architect Emile Weil.
