It all started here. Antoine’s Restaurant is still owned and operated by fifth generation relatives of the original founder, Antoine Alciatore. Built beginning in 1829 by French emigre Pierre Soule — a Louisiana U.S. Senator and criminal lawyer who died in the mansion's third-floor bedroom in 1870 — the property has served as an elegant manor, an orphan asylum, a jazz parlor, and a family-owned restaurant over nearly two centuries. Her husband and father-in-law re-established power over her and her estate by coercive means. Her father-in-law, driven by an insatiable desire for Micaela's money, attempted to murder her several years after the initial attempt. While she survived with injuries to her hand and breast, she also attempted to legally separate herself from her husband, despite the fact that they were never actually divorced.
