Bleu Frog Vineyards was born out of a perfect storm of timing, dreaming, hard work, and a little bit of luck. The Kernan family spent over 30 years serving in the United States Navy as true advocates for freedom and patriotism, with the intention of one day planting long-term roots of their own. After retiring in 2014, the quest for a farm life began in Loudoun County, where, as luck would have it, the historic White Stone Farm was posted for sale two years later. The undulating hills, rocky environment, and proximity to Leesburg drew the Kernans in as the ideal location. The property alterations were first inspired by grape cultivation and a healthy lifestyle, but the family soon recognized they could provide more to the community, the grape growers, and the wine makers of Northern Virginia. With the help of the harvest gods, they were able to produce their first wine in 2019, and their vision for the land began to grow. Jan's passion and expertise in the French culinary arts, as well as Joe's longtime service as a 'frogman' in the United States Navy SEAL community, inspired the moniker Bleu Frog. The Kernan family is committed to Veterans Affairs and supports a variety of causes that promote Veteran hiring programs as well as groups that provide long-term, ongoing care for Gold Star families. Dogs, animal rescue, good sportsmanship, and true kindness are also important to them. They both have a sharp wit and believe in balancing enthusiasm and hard work with a healthy dose of humility and belly laugh. The Kernans want you to watch their progress as the farm, grapes, and wines mature, to taste the wines, have some laughs, pet the dogs, and learn more about the topics they care about. Cheers! The Kernan Clan

The property dates to 1939, when Dr. Minor Wine Thomas and Grace Nesselrodt built their Colonial Revival home — designed by architect Everett Fauber, who also worked on the Governor's Palace in Williamsburg — using stone salvaged from a decommissioned Radford train station. The family hosted a wedding on the grounds as early as 1954, and Dr. Hal and Dr. Cheryl Gillespie restored the estate and opened it as Nesselrod on the New in 1999. Today the estate offers several distinct event spaces. The Pavilion is a 4,800-square-foot covered outdoor venue seating up to 200 guests, with restrooms, a small stage, and catering facilities. INCORPORATION Mrs. Anne C. Dulany and Mr. H. Rozier Dulany, Jr., the owners of the Buchanan Hall property at the time, made the decision to transfer the land and building to a nonprofit organization that would continue to play a vital part in the life of the town in the early 1930s. Towards this end, they and others came together on May 25, 1933, to form a 501(c)3 charity organization known simply as "Buchanan Hall" in memory of General Buchanan's construction of the facility and his gift of its use to the community. According to the founding documents, the Buchanan Hall nonprofit corporation would own and operate the building as Upperville's community center, noting that it was established "to hold meetings of a civic, patriotic, social, religious, educational, and charitable nature." The Buchanan Hall nonprofit corporation was established "to hold meetings of a civic, patriotic, social, religious, educational, and charitable nature," according to the founding documents. The initial trustees named to the board were Mrs. Anne C. Dulany, president; Mr. H. Rozier Dulany, Jr., secretary; and Mr. A. Cook Reid, trustee, all of whom were appointed on that date. On June 9, 1933, the Dulanys kindly donated the Buchanan Hall property and building to the newly formed nonprofit organization, bringing their vision to fruition. Since then, Buchanan Hall has served as the focal point for social, cultural, and civic events in Upperville, and it is beloved by both the locals and visitors from all over the world who visit. 1942 Buchanan Hall was determined to be in need of repair in 1942 after an inspection of the building's structure. It was decided to form a new trustee committee, which included Mrs. Paul Mellon as Chairman, Lieut. Walter J. Williams as Vice Chairman, Rozier Dulany as secretary, and Mrs. Joseph G. Gibson as treasurer, with Mrs. Paul Mellon serving as Chairman. Mrs. William G. Fletcher and Mrs. Thomas Glascock were also on the committee, which met once a month. The renovation of the building proceeded as planned, with funds raised through private contributions solicited by the committee's members. Upon completion, an item titled "Upperville's Latest Community Project is Brought to a Close" ran in the Fauquier Times-Democrat on November 5, 1942, with the headline "Upperville's Latest Community Project is Brought to a Close." According to the report, "the building will be available for use by churches, humanitarian organizations, the Red Cross, and the Boy Scouts at no cost." For dances and private gatherings, there will be a little cost levied. Additionally, in the event that Washington is evacuated, the hall will be required for hospital or canteen operations."

A beautiful piece of the Blue Ridge foothills, discovered by J. Willard Marriott Sr. in 1951, reminded him of his boyhood days on his family's farm in Utah, and became the inspiration for the creation of Marriott International. Following his purchase of the property, he began meticulously restoring the primary historic buildings and their surrounding grounds, and he continued to purchase contiguous parcels of land, including Fiery Run Ranch, resulting in the creation of the 4200+/- acre Marriott Ranch. With a modest herd of registered Hereford cattle, a large flock of black-faced sheep, and the breeding of quarter horses, J. Willard was able to bring the farm, which had been known as "Fairfield," back to life over the next few years. Affectionate horseback rider and outdoorsman, J. Willard would spend as much time as he could on his Fauquier County property, noting in his diary, "A beautiful place, hard to leave..." The historic James Marshall Manor House (circa 1814), which serves as the focal point of the Inn at Fairfield Farm, is located in the heart of the 4,200-acre Marriott Ranch and is the centerpiece of the Inn at Fairfield Farm. Visitors are reminded of the true meaning of hospitality by the twelve comfortable bedrooms, afternoon beverage service, and three-course breakfasts served each morning. CHECK OUT OUR B&B When not serving as a retreat for the Marriott family, friends, and associates, the working cattle ranch, which has well over 1,200 head of cattle, is used as a premier Northern Virginia outdoor event site for company picnics, executive meetings, and retreats, as well as weddings and other social gatherings.
