La Bodega is a Spanish tapas restaurant and event venue situated on Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri. Founded by James Taylor — whose background spans architecture, culinary training, brewmaster certification, and event management — the restaurant draws from the tapas traditions of Northern Spain and the Basque region, where small-plate dining is as much about camaraderie and unhurried conversation as it is about food. Lidia's Kansas City occupies a converted historic freight house in the Kansas City Crossroads, just north of Union Station. The interior evokes the warmth of an Italian farmhouse — exposed brick, reclaimed wood, and generous windows that frame the city skyline — while the kitchen reflects the culinary heritage of owner Lidia Bastianich and co-owner Tanya Bastianich Manuali. The Thomas H. Swope Memorial is an outdoor historic ceremony venue set on a hilltop in Swope Park — Kansas City's largest urban park — with views over the park's lagoon and surrounding grounds. The structure is a U-shaped colonnade in the Greek Doric style, featuring twelve 14-foot-tall columns supporting an entablature. Designed by landscape architect George Kessler based on plans drawn in 1915, the memorial was dedicated in 1918. Eight bronze medallions mounted on the colonnade's backdrop each honor a species of tree native to the park, while a decorative lantern with carved lion heads and feet crowns the stone court. Stone guardian lions flank the stairs leading up to the court — the sculptural work executed by Charles Keck, former president of the National Sculpture Society. The memorial marks the final resting place of Thomas H. Swope, the Kansas City philanthropist whose 1896 land donation established what would become the 1,805-acre park that surrounds it. The Pavilion at Theatre in the Park is an open-air event venue set within Shawnee Mission Park in Shawnee, Kansas, adjacent to the largest outdoor community theater in the country. Completed in the summer of 2010, the pavilion was built for gatherings of all kinds — from intimate family celebrations to larger corporate events and weddings. Built in a prairie style with native stonework and broad overhanging eaves, the clubhouse opened in 2011. The Oak Room is the largest event space at the Leawood Community Center, located on the lower level of City Hall in Leawood, Kansas. The center opened in May 1997 and was renovated in June 2006, offering four multipurpose rooms suitable for wedding receptions, business meetings, retreats, civic gatherings, and private celebrations of many kinds. The Oak Room accommodates up to 200 guests and features natural light and a neutral color palette that allows for flexible décor and customization.
