Addison Farms Vineyard is a family-owned winery set on 55 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Leicester, North Carolina, about 17 miles northwest of Asheville. The property has been in the family for four generations, since Addison Farmer and his parents purchased it in 1937. Today the estate grows five grape varieties — Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Petit Verdot, and Petit Manseng — at elevations between 2,250 and 2,300 feet, producing 600 to 800 cases each year. Guests gather at a covered outdoor pavilion overlooking the vines, where the vineyard hosts live music, chef and food-truck collaborations, and seasonal wine dinners through its Thursday-through-Sunday season. The relaxed, dog- and family-friendly setting also lends itself to private gatherings on the farm just outside Asheville.

Few event venues carry the kind of lived-in history that makes a celebration feel genuinely special. Klondike Cabins is one of them. Nestled on 100 acres in State Road, North Carolina, the property began in the early 1920s when John Hanes of Hanes Hosiery built the first cabin as a family retreat. His brother-in-law Thurmond Chatham later joined him in developing a working estate where prize Golden Guernsey cattle grazed, polo ponies were bred, and the dairy was known for producing what the families called "the best chocolate milk in the world." The cabins still hold the artifacts of those years: Chatham blankets, wood-burning fireplaces, antique firearms, and taxidermy gathered on the property itself. Today, Klondike Cabins welcomes weddings and private gatherings for 10 to 500 guests, with 42 acres of walking grounds and gardens for ceremonies and receptions under an open sky. The Lodge (the largest of the four restored cabins) serves as the central gathering place, with a full dining room and comfortable common spaces. A 2-acre fishing pond, sweeping views across 60 acres of neighboring vineyard, and the constant backdrop of deer, wild turkeys, and native wildlife make every event here feel like an escape that guests won't soon forget.

    Ayr Mount Historic Site

376 St Marys Rd, Hillsborough, NC 27278, USA
    • Spaces for 300 Guests

Ayr Mount is a Federal-era brick house set in the North Carolina Piedmont near Hillsborough, built in 1815 for the merchant William Kirkland and his wife, Margaret. Kirkland named the house for his former home in Ayr, Scotland, and commissioned it after establishing himself as one of Hillsborough's leading merchants — a grand brick residence that stood apart in a region of modest wooden dwellings. Once the center of a working farm of more than 500 acres, the property is crossed by a colonial-era road that traces a much older Native American trail. The house showcases the craftsmanship of the early nineteenth century, including the brick masonry of William Collier, the decorative joinery and mantels of Elhannon Nutt, and the stair and wainscoting of John Joyner Briggs. Acquired by Richard H. Jenrette in 1985 and carefully restored to its original paint colors and furnishings, Ayr Mount remains a remarkably intact example of the period and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today the house and grounds are stewarded by the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation, which opens the site for tours, educational programs, and events.

    • Spaces for 250 Guests

Founded in Charlotte in 1991, the Levine Museum of the New South has spent more than 35 years doing something genuinely rare: telling the full, honest story of the American South - not a sanitized version, but the complicated, diverse, and often difficult history that actually shaped the region. Long before inclusive curation became standard practice, the museum pioneered exhibitions and programs created with, for, and about the communities it serves. Its landmark exhibition "Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers" traced Southern history from Reconstruction through the twentieth century. The work earned national acclaim: in 2005, Levine Museum received the National Awards for Museum and Library Service, the field's highest national honor, presented at the White House, and the American Association for State and Local History's most prestigious recognition for state and local history interpretation. Every year, the museum hosts free, festival-style Family Days honoring Dia de Muertos, Three Kings Day, Martin Luther King Day, Juneteenth, and HERstory — public celebrations drawing thousands of Charlotte families into the story of their community. Now building a permanent new home in Charlotte's South End, the museum enters its next chapter with the same animating purpose: to connect the past to the future and realize the promise of a New South.
